Bird's Nest Yakitori & Bar

West End

Updated: Dec 22, 2023

BIRD'S NEST YAKITORI IN WEST END HAS CLOSED.

Bird’s Nest Yakitori and Bar, a rare bird in Brisbane, is derived from thousands of traditional yakitori restaurants that can be found lining the streets of Japan.

Central to the menu is the ancient Yakitori cooking method, whereby skewers of meat (or veg) are cooked in white charcoal at 1000 degrees, sealing them and creating an extraordinary melt in the mouth tenderness.

Enter the wooden doors to find an ambient dim lit eating house that replicates the Japanese experience, featuring intricate hand carved wooden screens dividing sections of low set sectioned off booths, a central kitchen surrounded by bar style seating and a fresco of the Brisbane river.

Recommended for the full deal is the Omakase course which comes at $55pp and comprises an Amuse Bouche with chilled sake, 8 skewers of choice, salad, a rice course and dessert.

Otherwise skewers come in serves of 7 (meat or vegetarian), with accomapniments including Torigara soup, Pirikara Fries, Edamame, Leba Pate (home made chicken liver pate with glutel free crusty bread) or Crunchy Monkatsu (deep fried soft cartilage with spices on the side).

Need to know: Traditionally rice is served after the skewers and there’s a small selection of desserts including Kurugoma (black sesame) Panna Cotta and Hojicha (green tea) Ice-cream.
