Lady Marmalade

Stones Corner

LADY MARMALADE HAS CLOSED.

No visit to Stones Corner should be undertaken without a drop-in to Lady Marmalade, the rustic vintage corner cafe that serves up what are arguably the best breakfasts and lunches on the south side.

Despite the casual ambience – colourful mismatching retro furniture on the footpath and faded shop signs, exposed brick and preserved relic features from a long-gone past (as a bank, bird hospital and general store) inside – what comes out of the kitchen is anything but casual cafe fare.

The chef quality menu, sourced locally and prepared in-house, draws inspiration from Asia and the American deep south – think all day breakfast dishes such as Sweet Potato, Zucchini and Feta Börek Pastry with sumac labna, roast carrot hummus, tomato and cucumber salsa and fried egg or Confit Duck Maryland with pecan butter, fried egg, candied pecans with a maple & chilli sauce (on the side) served on a chilli cornbread waffle.

There's nothing humble about the burgers or toasties here with a choice of The “Cuban” Toastie - toasted sourdough bread closed sandwich with ham, roast pork, swiss cheese, dill pickles, and American mustard or the Korean Fried Chicken Burger with kimchi slaw, Kewpie mayo and chilli caramel on a soft white bun. Also available at the counter are a range of delicious house made daily salads. And for afters leave room for the peanut buttercup tart or one of the other delectable sweet treats.

Need to know: The Eastern Busway stop is across the street, it's on the bike route from Annerley and through to Norman Park and if street parking's tight there's parking available in the library car park also across the road.

The menu has changed since our visit.
