Helsby's Alehouse

Kangaroo Point

Helsby’s Alehouse is an ambient old world craft beer bar nestled within Kangaroo Point’s historic Pineapple Hotel.

Set in rustic surrounds that give the nod to the hotel’s long and colourful past, Helsby’s features retro style ads and stencil art on the old brick walls, high ceilings and polished wooden floors.

In contrast the food and drink offerings here are thoroughly modern, with an ‘honour board’ on the wall of craft beers with 16 on tap – think Helsby’s own house lager along with offerings from Stone & Wood, Green Beacon, Newstead Brewing co, 4 Pines, Mornington, Balter and Slipstream Brewing and Treehouse cider.

Wine drinkers are well catered for here too, with a curated list of boutique wines, including La Petite Mort Rose from the Granite Belt, Tempranillo Shiraz Cabernet and Pet Nat Gewurztraminer, both from New England and Snake & Herring Chardonnay from WA’s Margaret River.

Bar food is a cut above the usual, with options including freshly shucked pacific oysters, soft tacos with pork belly, slaw and sriracha aioli, crispy fried pigs ears, BBQ corn and gourmet charcuterie or antipasto boards.

For something a bit more substantial there’s yakitori skewers, pizza (calabrese & mozzarella or mushroom, spinach and feta), Beer & Beef or Portobello mushroom burgers, Helmet’s hot dog (thick pork banger, sauerkraut, onion jam, mustard and frites) or the Reuben (corn beef, cress, tomato & pickles on house baked beer bread, with fries).
