Facing off with the State Library of Queensland across the river, the council’s premier library and keeper of some 110000 books occupies several funky coloured stories of the mod BCC headquarters.

The ground floor shares space with the Council café which looks to have been invaded by the giant steamer sculptures that adorn the outside Raddacliff Square, and encompasses up-to-the-minute self-checkout, and a Perspex and chrome display of the new releases available for borrowing.

Upstairs levels feature skewed windows in the shape of book spines, fluoro pink display lights, a forest-themed children’s corner and lounge with views, a young adult section with a couple of X-Boxes and a rear nook devoted to the history of Brisbane.

Internet is widely available but only for use by members.
