Christ Church
Tingalpa
This is the second charming little incarnation of the original church that was designed by holy architect RG Suter in 1868. In 1885 a cyclone blew in and took with it the church, and its present form was built in 1886 using recycled materials salvaged from the first.
Besides its destruction in a cyclone, the church is known for its salubrious pioneers buried in the grounds. Amongst the gravestones are those of Susannah Weedon, its first resident and ancestor of Ros Packer, Richard Jefferies – founder of Palings Music Stores and the Queensland State and Muncipal Choir, William Duckett White MLC, of Lota House and the original farming family the Stantons, whose grandson Stan Porter was later killed in 1954 with his son in a plane crash on the ancestral property.
