Young's Shop House
Petrie Terrace
This house c 1878 is unusual for both its two storey brick terrace style with only two rooms downstairs and one and a half bedrooms upstairs and that it was built as a shop house by its unusual owner John Young, a navel captain turned builder who kept a detailed diary of his life.
The room at the front was the store and it only lasted a year before becoming a parlour. Young’s other projects of note include Milton’s second oldest residence Lucerne, which he built and lived in and the renowned manor house Kirkston, at Windsor, which was designed by prestigious architect GHM Addison in 1888.
