Make it Slow is a large-scale, interactive installation taking over the Children’s Gallery at Ipswich Art Gallery these summer holidays until February 2, 2025.

Dive into a tactile world of colour and patterns with this fantastic all-ages exhibition that engages with themes of creativity, environmental sustainability, DIY culture, and collaboration.

Mother & daughter doing craft Make It Slow

Take everyday repurposed materials and be transported into somewhere new. It’s not about what you make – it’s about slowing down and focussing on the creative process.

Giant loom at Make It Slow

Step inside the Archi-Loom, a massive structure built onsite over five days. This giant bamboo installation is ready for you to add your personal designs: weave, plait, hang, and thread material into the structure’s walls, and leave your own mark in this unique installation. With additions every day, this enormous loom grows and changes, and no two days will look the same!

Kids in bamboo forest IAG

Discover what magical sounds you can create as you gently move through the Bamboo Beats Forest and add your own design to the Winding Wool Drawing Wall. Design your own crafty creations from the make-and-take home activity tables, or chill out in the beanbag zone and watch a video about the gallery's Slow Art creators.

Art creations at Make It Slow

‘Slow art’ is about taking your time and enjoying the creative process instead of rushing to create an end product, blurring the boundary between artists and audience. It’s about sharing ideas, connecting with others, and making art together. This sustainable art practice helps people think about how we can create in a way that’s good for the environment and our community.
