Stockyard Creek Circuit
Burbank
Stockyard Creek Circuit at Burbank is an easy bush walk suitable for all ages and abilities but is especially suited for young children and their parents.
Part of the Brisbane Koala Bushland, which stretches from Burbank to Belmont, the entrance is located off Alperton Road in Burbank. Here you'll find a visitor node with picnic shelters, electric barbecues, toilets and a fun, interactive information activity where children can listen to a variety of wildlife found in the bush.
The 1.4 km walking track (which takes less than 50 minutes to complete) cuts through open eucalypt forest before crossing the creek, which is rarely dry even in drought. There's a viewing platform over the creek where you might be able to see several species of frogs, long-necked turtles or eastern water dragons sunning themselves on rocks.
Continue along the boardwalk beside the creek, through pockets of rainforest, past ephemeral waterholes. Listen for the sounds of rosellas, scarlet honeyeaters or sacred kingfishers, and watch for swamp wallabies. The scenery returns to open forest on the return trek, where if you're lucky you might spot a sleeping koala high in a gum tree.
Nice to know - This easy walking track is suitable for prams and wheelchairs. Dogs are permitted on leash.
