Simpsons Playground

Graceville

On the cusp of Oxley Creek and Brisbane River is this secluded picturesque little playground with views to Indooroopilly Island, BBQ and picnic amenities and a charming weatherboard Sea Scout hut.

The tree- shaded playground itself is fairly standard although with the advantage that it links to another playground in Faulkner Park via a delightful gum tree-studded path that is ideal for scooters and bikes.

When dusk falls, the bat colony on neighbouring Indooroopilly Island comes to life, creating a spectacle as they scud overhead.

A nod to the history of the area is encapsulated in a bronze sculpture of the Aboriginal canoe that ex-convict Pamphlett used to cross the river here (the nearby Pamphlett Bridge is named after him). If it weren’t for John Oxley happening across Pamphlett and his fellow ex-cons in the bay area, Brisbane might never have been settled where it was – it was Pamphlett, friend of local Aborigines who showed him Brisbane River and its possibilities.
