Northshore Riverside Park
Hamilton
Just 6 klm from the heart of the city, Northshore Riverside Park is a beautifully-planned, public green space that boasts one of Brisbane’s rare ‘beaches’, with it’s very own sandy strip – perfect for a day of sandcastle building or putting down the towel to take in some rays.
Originally the location of one of Brisbane’s many bustling wharves, it has now been transformed into a vibrant, waterfront hub that is well-worth a visit.
A pirate-themed playground is perfect for the littlies.
Of great delight for kids of all ages is the interpretative Playscape area, where exploring is definitely encouraged, especially along the dry creek bed that winds its way along the base of the trees and up and down over the grassy knolls.
This architecturally-designed play area includes giant seashells, mangrove pods and the biggest pandana seeds this side of the Gateway – all typical of the natural vegetation and ecosystem of the Hamilton shoreline – and meant to be climbed on.
The vast open spaces are ideal, quiet spots to lay a picnic blanket and take the day slowly, or if you’re in the mood for a good old-fashioned bbq, you’ll be impressed with the state-of-the-art electric barbecues and undercover picnic nooks that are dotted around the precinct, and protected from the elements. As you would when you're heading to any public bbq spot in Brisbane, don't forget to pack what you need to clean the barbeque plate once you've finished.
Dogs are welcome to accompany their hoomans but must remain on-leash at all times.
The Northshore Hamilton Ferry Terminal is adjacent to the Northshore Riverside Park and taking to the river makes for a great alternative to driving plus you get to see a different side to the city as you meander along the waterway.
Need to know – Swimming is not permitted at the beach, unfortunately. There is a compact outdoor gym area shaded by some trees within the precinct that is free to use, if you’re interested in doing your own park fit program.
Nice to know – Fancy a spot of tennis? The Northshore Tennis Centre is only a 100m walk away towards EatStreet Northshore, and courts are available for hire.
