Orleigh Park
West End
A peaceful fringe of Moreton Bay fig shaded parkland on the river at West End (far end of Montague St) that was wiped out, along with surrounding homes by a monster wall of water in the 1893 floods and submerged again in 1974 and 2011.
Today its hundred year old trees, string of children’s playgrounds for young and old, BBQ and picnic pavilions hold no clue to past catastrophes and these excellent facilities are connected by a walking path suitable for young children, wheelchairs and bikes. The frog tongue slippery dip which has weathered all storms is an all time favourite for young ones.
Adults can take a nap under one of the giant fig trees or get zippy with a takeaway coffee from Alberto’s Shot, the spiffy red turn of the century corner shop that packs a weekend crowd
