Ipswich Art Gallery For Kids
Ipswich
It’s little wonder that the Ipswich Art Gallery has an excellent children’s section - it was Australia’s first dedicated gallery space for children under 12.
Located upstairs in a roomy light-filled playroom styled area it’s a great place for children, their parents, grandparents and even babies to gather and get creative.
Through its ever changing line-up of exhibitions that are curated especially for children, and programs aimed at early childhood, primary and upper primary age groups, the Ipswich Art Gallery not only harnesses their creativity through play in a fun safe environment but provides art education programs and resources for teachers and parents.
Whether it be building with bricks, creating with recycled materials, drawing or illustrating books, there’s always plenty of fun stuff to do, as the philosophy here is that learning happens through play.
For most themed exhibitions there’s also a dedicated play zone for 2yrs and under as well as a weekly programme of special baby/toddler activity sessions (bookings essential).
And with the majority of programs and activities free, it can become the art studio-away-from home for families where the philosophy is that children are encouraged to be seen and heard.
