Mick's Nuts
West End
Come on Saturdays to the old brick corner shop housing Mick's Nuts, one of West End’s timeless treasures and there's every chance you’ll have to queue to stock up on almonds, cashews, pistachios, macadamias, dried beans, fruit and lentils.
Not much has changed inside since the original owner Mick, from Rhodes in Greece, opened this shop in 1975, but the produce is fresh and bountiful and staff are helpful and informed.
Amongst the stack of raw and roasted nuts which cover almost every inch of floor space (hence the outside queue) can be found Queensland pecans, Australian almonds and macadamias, Californian walnuts, Brazil nuts, Vietnamese and Indian cashews.
But it’s not just about the nuts- there’s also a range of cheeses including fetta and farmhouse, olives and dried fruit including Turkish figs with a range of flours, home made muesli, honeys and pastas thrown in to the mix.
