Aunty
Fortitude Valley
Updated: Sep 11, 2025
Aunty is soon to transform Brisbane's Fortitude Valley dining landscape in the back half of 2025.
Taking over the highly sought after space at 11 Wandoo Street – previously occupied by the likes of City Winery and Campos Coffee – Aunty will bring a diverse, high-quality dining experience to the prestigious James Street precinct, focusing on the rich culinary traditions of Asian cuisine with both classic techniques and contemporary flair.

As the twelfth addition to The Tassis Group's already impressive portfolio, Aunty will continue the group’s tradition of creating distinctive dining destinations that not only contribute to Brisbane's growing reputation as a world-class food city, but expand the city's multicultural dining offerings in unprecedented ways.
The choice of Fortitude Valley – and specifically the James Street precinct - represents a strategic move for The Tassis Group, with Aunty now joining fellow Tassis Group venue Fatcow in one of Brisbane’s most exciting food and entertainment hubs.

At the helm of Aunty's kitchen will be acclaimed Chef Salvatore de Ponte, whose unique culinary journey bridges the gap between traditional Italian techniques and authentic Asian flavours. With over 15 years of experience in high-end kitchens across Australia, Asia, London and Italy, Chef de Ponte brings a distinctive perspective to modern Asian cuisine that promises to set Aunty apart in Brisbane's competitive dining scene.
The restaurant's design, identity and atmosphere – overseen by longtime collaborators Clui and creative agency Allo Creative – will reflect this commitment to sophistication and authenticity, with a focus on moody, intimate spaces and modular zones that pays homage to traditional Cantonese tea houses while incorporating contemporary design elements that speak to Brisbane's evolving dining culture.

Aunty's menu will feature a carefully curated selection of Asian classics alongside innovative interpretations that showcase Chef de Ponte's creativity. Diners can expect everything from traditional dim sum served during weekend yum cha sessions to elaborate banquet-style dinners featuring premium ingredients like Peking duck, fresh seafood, and seasonal vegetables prepared with meticulous attention to detail.
In many traditional Asian cultures, "aunty" isn't merely a title; it's a promise wrapped in two syllables. One that speaks of the woman who always has an extra bowl ready, who knows exactly how you like your tea, and whose kitchen door is perpetually open. It's the voice that calls out "have you eaten?", not as small talk, but as genuine desire to cook for you. So comb your hair, and clear your schedule. Because Aunty is coming to town.
