Six Acres Restaurant

Bowen Hills

Updated: Oct 28, 2025

Six Acres Restaurant is a seriously good dining destination found off the beaten track in the base of spiffy Rydges Fortitude Valley in Bowen Hills.

You don’t have to be a guest at the hotel to partake in the culinary delights to keep the most fastidious foodie happy, and Six Acres punches way above its weight as a hotel restaurant, to be amongst Brisbane’s best.

Décor is as fresh, unique and inviting as the food, with ambient lighting, plenty of space between tables, a wall of market produce, herb cart and a quirky backlit wall of commemorative plates including historic Brisbane events like the Commonwealth Games in 1982.

The philosophy driving Six Acres is paddock-to-plate dining, with a return-to-basics done superbly and with a fresh twist. With not an emulsion foam or twig in sight here, the chef works his magic on good produce.

The steaks at Six Acres, which are directly sourced from Gympie or the Darling Downs, are a must try. Choose from T-Bone, Scotch Fillet, Sirloin on the Bone (directly soured from Gympie) or Black Angus Eye Fillet cooked to perfection with a choice of sauce such as red wine jus or mushroom and herb roasted or heavenly mashed potatoes.

Also from the grill is Tasmanian King Salmon, otherwise diners can chose from a delicious pan-fried market fish with flame -roasted cherry tomato, baby squid, capers, pine nuts, diamond clams and fresh herbs, Free Range Chicken Breast on the bone, with sweet potato and peas mousseline, Egg Tagliatelle Pasta with sand crab, spring herbs, tomato and baby squid, or Organic Eggplant Parmigiana.

For starters, try the Fresh Shucked Sydney Rock Oysters with the chef’s special lemon beads, the delicate Crudo of King Salmon Ceviche, Pan-Fried Harvey Bay Scallops or the Local Farmers Vegetable Garden of crispy artichokes, zucchini flowers and sweet peas.

Desserts are also a star performer on the menu, with offerings such as Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble with Madagascar Vanilla Bean ice-cream, Lindt White Chocolate Cheesecake with fresh berries and mini macarons and a Classic Tiramisu Sponge.

Additionally, a Signature Cheese Board offers a selection of top notch cheeses and accompaniments.

Six Acres also has a fine curated list of wines and the Maître’ D is only too happy to make suggestions to match food perfectly with wine.

Need to know – Six Acres is open daily for dinner. Parking is available in nearby streets by night or take a taxi. Brunswick St Station is a 10 min walk. There is also a parking station adjacent to Rydges Hotel which may have limited spaces available.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
