Cartel Del Taco

New Farm

Updated: Apr 27, 2025

Cartel Del Taco is a colourful 1980's inspired taqueria and bar bringing an authentic taste of Mexican street food and mezcal and tequila cocktails to a corner of New Farm.

Brought to the inner city suburb by the folks behind the popular taqueria of the same name in Hawthorne, Cartel del Taco is a welcome addition to the New Farm shopping and dining precinct.

The inviting interior, which seats up to 100, is a stunning vision of red and white tiles, and featuring custom artworks by Mauricio Groenewold.

On the menu are the traditional tacos they're renowned for, including El Pastor, which is perhaps Mexico's most famous - spit-grilled pork marinated with guajillo chilli and axiote adobo, served with a sliver of pineapple.

At this venue the menu is expanded to incorporate dishes prepared over a charcoal grill, such as chargrilled prawns with clarified butter, amongst a range of wood-fired meat, vegetables and seafood.

For drinks it's hard to go past the cocktail list, which has a selection of 15 margaritas (including one that is espresso-martini-inspired), as well as mezcals and tequila, while there's also a range of Mexican beers on offer.

Good to know - Cartel del Taco will also be serving a Mexican-Australian fusion breakfast.

Need to know - There is onstreet parking available nearby.
