Hideki is an exquisite Japanese restaurant specializing in yakitori, hidden away behind a lit-up cherry blossom tree in Burnett Lane, Brisbane CBD.

Located behind the all-black facde next door to glamorous whisky bar Death & Taxes, Hideki is well worth seeking out, adding a new level of dining to Brisbane's oldest laneway,

Step through the sliding door into another world of beautiful old world-meets contemporary design, where the only lighting comes from the backlit bar, tiny table lamps and wall lamps.

Along each of the walls, which are adorned with beautiful Japanese artworks and statues, are gold aged leather banquettes, with seating also available in window booths and at stools alongside the bar.

Elegant tableware includes gorgeous artisan earthenware dishes, gold-tipped chopsticks and cherry red origami place settings.

Whilst yakitori is the signature at Hideki, there's a wide selection of delicious raw dishes, such as oysters with yuzu sorbet; kingfish usuzukuri; tuna or wagyu beef tataki; salmon, yellowfin tuna or kingfish sashimi; and salmon or tuna cornets.

There's also a variety of share plates ranging from house pickles or edamame to white bait tempura; miso eggplant; wagyu sando; popcorn prawns (highly recommended) and wagyu gyoza (must-try).

Not to be missed are the yakitori, with choices including salmon teriyaki; wagyu meat balls; lamb cutlet; shiitake mushcroom, giant king prawn; scallop; pork belly; chicken thigh; craffed corn; tomato and okra.

A handful of mains include teriyaki chicken; tooth fish saikyo yaki or senku wagyu sirloin (MB9+) - a must-try. There's also a choice of Japanese potato or soba noodle salad.And save room for dessert, with two delectable options - matcha creme brulee or tiramisu.

Worth ordering to enjoy a sample of the best of the extensive menu are the chef's banquets (min. 2 poeple) - either the 10-course  'The Wind's Journey". or the premium 12-course "The Dragon's Feast".

Hideki's bar menu includes a list of bespoke Japanese flavoured cocktails including Kideki Pritz (four 0pillars yuzu, peach & soda); Midoriiro Margarita (bianco tequila, mezcal, chartreuse, midori & wasabi) & Kiyomi (roku, sake, lychee, lemon & sakura).

The concise wine list offers a range of boutique wines, selected to match the Japanese menu, and there's also Japanese spirits featuring an impressive selection of whiskeys; sake (with the option of sake flights) and Japanese beer.
