Best Friends Kainan Sa
Fortitude Valley
Don’t be fooled by the appearance of this little Filipino eatery – it offers something way different to the humdrum fare of the average food court outlet.
Set in the thick of a little ethnic arcade of eateries and providores, it’s an offshoot of the Best Friends Filipino Grocery store nearby and as such is a fave of the local Filipino community who rock up to get their fix of adobo (vinegar & garlic marinated meat stew) and halo halo (crushed milky ice).
Mains are served up from bain maries and aside from the adobo, feature kaldereta ( hearty tomato flavoured stew with potatoes), pancit palabok (rice vermicelli) and tinola (chicken chilli leaf soup), as well as a handful of vegetarian stews. All stews come with rice and are brilliant value at around $7 a plate.
Desserts take pride of place here too with leche flan, puto (sweet steamed cake) and oodles of dainty sweetmeats to choose from.
