Abode Cafe
Taringa
Abode Café is the charming resident coffee and foodie hub in Taringa’s cute refurbished 1930s Hillsdon Road Centre.
Those who venture off the beaten track to this quaint little precinct, which morphed out of a general store, are rewarded with top notch Black Sheep coffee, sweet stuff that is all baked freshly on site and a light all day brunch menu.
Outside the café is a spacious courtyard garden that feels like you’re in someone’s front yard and inside is a cool character-filled space with polished floorboards, mosaic tiles, shelves of house-made preserves, herb pots and fresh fruit bowls.
Customers are made to feel like house guests by owners Bronwyn and Peter and the compact menu has a home-cooked flavour: Chorizo Baked Eggs, the divine Smokin’ Savoury Mince with spring onions and sour cream on sourdough (or corn chips) which has their chilli jam in the mix, or Rhubarb Rhubarb Bircher.
Otherwise there’s avo and almond butter, house jam or Nutella and seasonal fruit on sourdough or coconut yoghurt with honey, granola and seasonal fruit.
Sweets-wise, expect to find deliciousness like banana bread, lemon olive oil cakes or brownies straight out of the oven and as well as the coffee, drinks include iced chai or chocolate, freshly squeezed OJ and old-fashioned milkshakes.
