Pitstop on Mt Mee
Mt Mee
Pitstop on Mt Mee is a quirky country style café in a corrugated iron shed atop Mt Mee, with some of the most stunning vistas in south-east Queensland, is a weekend destination unto itself.
Outside is a lawn dining terrace with jaw-dropping views on the mountain edge and a black 1960s Falcon signed by years of visitors while inside is festooned with motorcycle and automobile memorabilia.
On the menu is simple hearty café fare, with traditional hot breakfasts that go down a treat with a dose of fresh mountain air. And for lunch, delicious old-style hamburgers and chips, country pies and sausage rolls and sandwiches.
In addition, annexed to the rear inside the café is a tiny shop selling everything from vintage Matchbox cars to local crafts and collectables, and motorbike and car aficionados will enjoy a chat with the owner, an ex-sidecar jockey and road bike racer who hails from a South African family of car and motorbike dealers.
Not only is The Pitstop Cafe a great spot for a weekend breakfast/lunch, it's ideally combined with a bushwalk in the nearby gorgeous Mt Mee section of D'Aguilar National Park, with its remnant saw mill, eucalypt forests, waterfalls and lookouts.
On chilly winter days, the best seat in the house is one of the vinyl vintage couches in front of the wood fire.
