Hallowed Grounds Espresso
Mt Gravatt
Since opening at the beginning of 2012, Hallowed Grounds Espresso has gone from being a nice place to pick up a take-away coffee to a great place to sit, relax, and take-in the eclectic environment.
The transformation from nice but bland to cosy and quirky can be credited to Cynamon Rose Norris, who became a co-owner of Hallowed Grounds after buying out a previous partner. Clearly, a woman's touch was all it needed. The coffee is still great tasting (they use Elixir) but the menu has changed drastically as has the decor.
Once home to humble muffins, patrons can now choose homebaked treats like lamingtons, lemon and ginger slice, or Moroccan orange and pistachio cake. Breakfast is served all day and includes the classic cheese, bacon, and egg muffin alongside NY style bagels served with local bush honey, cream cheese, walnuts and sultanas or feta scrambled eggs on Turkish bread. Lunch options vary from a simple ham and cheese toastie to gourmet sandwiches, vegetarian lasagne, and lamb burgers.
The decor is what sets this place apart from other Southside cafes though. It's filled to the brim with quirky collectables and vintage bric-a-brac, many with price tags attached.
*Things to Note: Hallowed Grounds is dog friendly with doggy treats available. Parking is available on-street or behind the cafe, down the lane.
