Matthew Thomas
Sandgate
Bringing a touch of class to the historical Masonic Lodge perched on Sandgate's cliff top, Matthew Thomas is a charm-filled cafe with its own in-house homewares and giftshop.
Inside most of the heritage features – fireplace, decorative plasterwork and ceiling roses have been preserved while bifold windows across the front open the dining room to gorgeous water vistas also enjoyed by diners outside on the terrace.
The menu features all day breakfast along with a lunch menu that varies from light options such as trio of dips or soup, through steak sandwiches, chicken and salmon open grills to fish of the day.
This is also a great drop in for a well brewed Toby's Estate coffee with a delectable dessert such as chocolate mud cake, sticky date pudding or a plate of the divine in-house fudge (which also features in the fudge sundaes).
While there have a browse in their exotic little shop, whose wares include Noritake & Wedgewood dinnerware, Yankee candles and spectacular Venetian glass jewellery.
