Bar Mesopotamia

Milton

Updated: Jun 16, 2025

Bar Mesopotamia in Milton is like stumbling across an ancient bar that has been transformed into one of Brisbane's most ambient destinations.

Indeed, the inspiration behind Bar Mesopotamia dates back to 8000 years ago in the ‘Cradle of the Universe’, Ancient Mesopotamia, where beer was born when a goddess discovered the art of fermenting grain

Today Bar Mesopotamia, Brisbane's own ‘Cradle of Beer’ has been unearthed, paying homage to the original brewers of the magical mead.

Step inside the entrance, which you'll find opposite Suncorp Stadium  on Castlemaine St, to another world of ancient maps, rough stone and concrete floors, exposed timber beam ceilings and rustic handmade and vintage furniture.

Combining timeless design and modern comfort, enjoy an ambience inspired by the culture and aesthetic of the civilizations of Ancient Mesopotamia, the birthplace of the oldest beverage known to man.

Adding to the atmosphere are all sorts of cosy nooks and crannies, featuring Chesterfield armchairs and lounges, a chaise longue, globe, candelabras, Turkish rugs, gilt framed mirrors, leather ottomans, tea chests, lanterns and plants.

Cosy lounge nook in Bar Mesopotamia

In the window there's a cosy lounge area and running along one side is a massive antique pressed metal-sided bar, whilst on the other is a mezzanine platform with more seating.

Whilst Bar Mesopotamia doesn't serve food, the impressive drinks list is well worth sticking around for, with a carefully curated craft beer range, delicious cocktail menu and quality boutique wine list.

On the cocktail menu, signatures include Garden of Babylon (gin, lemon, apple juice, sugar syrup and mint); and Mesopotamia Spritz (limincello, prosecco & soda water) alongside classics like Aperol Spritz, Espresso Martini, Ameretto Sour & Classic Margarita.

A curated list of boutique wines, the majority of which are available by the glass (150ml or 250ml) or bottle, come from the best wine growing regions of Australia as well as Italy, France and Germany.

As for beers, there's a wide choice of Australian craft beers, including Blackflag Afiinity Pale Ale, Mountain Culture Cult IPA, Hakers Stout, Moffat Beach Trilogy West Coast IPA; locals Slipstream Fruit Cart Sour and Helios Brewing Seedless Watermelon, Rosella & Mulberry Gose as well as standards like Corona Extra, XXXX Gold and Heineken. Eight rotating taps include Guinness and a new beer born, Mesopotamia’s own ‘Son of Doug’ Pale Ale' (see below)*
