The Montague Hotel

West End

Updated: Aug 31, 2025

The Montague Hotel is a neighbourhood West End pub, reincarnated from an old office block off the beaten track on Montague Rd.

Offering something to everyone, from families to hipsters to sports fans and workers, The Montague Hotel is a seamless combination of contemporary craft bar and gastropub with the traditional Aussie beer, gaming and sports haunt.

A striking bar with copper and brass décor and trimmings is the heart of the hotel inside, with the sports screens and gaming lounge tucked to one side and the rest a convivial mix of dining booths, a couch underneath street art and casual tables and stools for drinkers.

Meanwhile outside is a cool wraparound garden balcony of hanging plants and white iron lace patio furniture for drinks or dining.

On tap at the bar are some six mostly craft beers (Stone & Wood, Stella Artois, Great Northern Brewing Co, Young Henrys, Bulimba Gold, Wild Yak and Stone & Wood) as well as Monty Pale Lager (the hotel’s own drop).

Gin lovers will be in paradise at The Montague, with a menu of Straight Pour Gins, including West Winds, The Botanist, Haymans Sloe and Four Pillars, House Signature Gin Cocktails such as the Gin Sour and Sloe Hoe and Martinis with flavours including Lychee, French and Pavlova (with passionfruit and egg whites).

Otherwise there are Classic Cocktails including Aperol Spritz, Whisky Sour, Margarita and Cosmopolitan and Share Jugs such as Dirty Havana, Gintopia and Caprioska.

On the food front, the hotel serves classic pub grub including 6 types of burger (think Classic Cheeseburger, Truffle Mushroom, Spit Chicken & Maple Bacon and Smoked Wagyu), or, available 7 nights, a Charcoal Rotisserie (Spit Roast half Chicken, Wagyu Rump Cap, Greek Style Lamb) with roast potato & root vegetables or house salad and skin-on fries). There's also all-time faves like Beef or Chicken Schnitzel, Salt & Pepper Squid or Beer Battered Fish.

That’s not all – The Montague also offers hearty Salads (including Chicken Chipotle and Superfood Detox) and 6 types of pizza, while beef lovers can choose T-Bone, Rib on the Bone, Porterhouse and Petite Eye Fillet cooked on the flame grill, accompanied by hot chips & salad or roast potato and root vegetables.

Can’t decide? Then check out one of the Boards – for One or Two, with combinations of the ‘Small Eats’ such as Crispy Hot Wings, Buttermilk Chicken Tenders and Beer Battered Pickles.

Good to know – Many of the dishes can be ordered Gluten Free, including the pizzas, at no extra charge. The hotel has its own blend of Monty's coffee, with bags of beans available for purchase at the bar.

Need to know - There is some parking available under the building, otherwise on street nearby.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
