Osbourne Hotel
Fortitude Valley
The Osbourne Hotel, an historic hotel founded in 1864 in Fortitude Valley, is now a multi-million dollar refurbishment with a stunning new bar, bistro and beer garden.
Located on the corner of Ann and Constance Streets, the site has been the Rat & Parrot, Fringe Bar and Kerbside in the past. The new name is a nod to the original hotel designed for hotelier Charles Osbourne.
While the hotel itself is rich in history (the infamous Painters and Dockers Union used to hang here in the 70s), the renovation is thoroughly modern - think high ceilings, exposed brick, lots of timber and lush greenery. A light-filled beer garden sits at the rear with funky street art and glass roof.
The food ranges from classic pub fare like wagyu beef burgers and beer battered fish and chips to chicken schnitzel and Cape Grim sirloin steaks. Otherwise, there are wood-fired pizzas, plates of oysters and scrumptious salads such as oak smoked salmon nicoise with kipfler potatoes, green beans, olives, cherry tomatoes, capers and soft egg.
Starters and share plates include karaage chicken, peking duck spring rolls and antipasto platters with smoked and cured meats, marinated vegetables and olives.
Desserts range from chocolate cake with honeycomb cream and honeycomb chunks to raspberry white chocolate cheesecake and passionfruit trio - passionfruit sponge, passionfruit mousse and passionfruit curd.
Drink wise, the Osbourne boasts an astounding 94 taps of local and international craft beer, a boutique wine list and classic cocktails like the hotel’s signature Osbourne G&T.
Need to know - You can bring your well-behaved 4-legged bestie into the beer garden to join you for a drink.
