Milquetoast
Brisbane City
Updated: Sep 02, 2025
Milquetoast is a pocket-sized wine bar in a converted garage, hidden away down a Brisbane city laneway, from the canny owners of another city gem, Before + After amero and cocktail bar.

The cosy inviting space oozes old world charm and character, with ambient golden lighting, a wine shelf running along the walls and an eclectic mix of vintage and bespoke furniture.

Guests can take a seat at the bar, or at the small and large tables (some crafted from oak and maple), or relax in one of the armchairs and couches scattered throughout the space.

Whilst Milquetoast is first and foremost about the carefuly curated extensive collection of wines, there's also an impressive cocktail list, including a special martini menu.

House cocktails are creative by both name and boutique ingredients - think Caspar Milquetoast (Four Pillars dry gin, lacto rhubarb, sparkling wine, vanilla & milk toast soda); No Loitering (Betanga blanco tequila, house wasabi liqueur, elderflower & citrus); and Egbert Smear (Flor de cafia 4 yr rum, creme de peche, macadamia orgeat, citrus and Aether ale).

Spirits on offer are whisky (Australian, Scottish, Irish & American-style) and gin, along with a small selection of agave, vodka and rum, and there's also vermouth and half a dozen craft beers (including locals Aether and Revel Brewing).

Be sure to sample the exquisite food - a rotating monthly menu of small plates to share, such as oysters with vermouth mignonette & apple; devilled eggs, bacon & leek cream; or Urban Valley mushrooms on toast.

Other delights might include crumpet with cured trout and smoked curry aioli; cauliflower gnocchi and pomegranate; as well as sweet offerings like lemon posset with whipped honey & bee pollen or Milquetoast pudding with amaro raisins.

Need to know - There is no on-street parking available nearby but there are three secure carparks at 66, 140 & 162 Elizabeth St.
