Brisbane Brewing Co
West End
Brisbane's best kept secret craft brewery and bar is Brisbane Brewing Co. tucked away down a West End laneway.
Beyond the intricate iron gate on Boundary Street, owners Grant and Michelle Clark (who own the Gabba's Brewhouse) have created beer nirvana; with ten freshly brewed beers on tap - 8 house beers and a couple of guest brews - and seventy something bottled craft beers from around the world.
Patrons can sip an icy cold Brisbane Pale Ale or German doppelbock beside the bar overlooking the beer tanks or venture outside with plenty of seating options provided in the courtyard and laneway including funky outdoor furniture.
Besides beer, there's a small international wine list, spirits and cocktails designed by 2014 Brisbane Cocktail Maker of the Year Tessa Clarkson - Cucumber Cooler, Effen Watermelon and Basil and Sailor's Ration with English Harbour rum, Kracken black spiced rum, orange, lime and ginger beer.
Food wise, the on-site deli dishes up meat and cheese platters like the recommended Brewers Platter with slow cooked beef brisket, pulled pork shoulder, potato and bacon salad, house pickles, Kenilworth vintage cheese, smoked tomato relish, house made beer mustard, corn bread and baguette.
There's hoagie sandwiches and a brioche slider trio - smoked beef brisket, blue cheese and mustard, ham, brie and smoked tomato relish and pulled pork and apple slaw - while tasters to share or team up with sides include Hervey Bay scallops, Mooloolaba king prawns and Darling Downs wagyu rump chargrilled medium rare and served with bittersweet chocolate jus and raspberry vinegar.
Mains come with your choice of two sides, such as chunky chips, charred corn on the cob, Caesar or watermelon, feta and torn mint salad, and include beer battered barramundi, beef brisket, pulled pork, rib fillet and That Bloody Duck - twice cooked duck leg finished with blood orange reduction.
Vegetarians are catered for too with a West End vegan deli platter, pickled baby beetroot and quinoa taster with hop marinated Danish feta, smoked tomato and roasted capsicum and Chilli Non Carne - a no meat slow braised bean and soy salsa served with rice.
The menu may have changed since our visit.
