Woolloongabba

Updated: Oct 16, 2023

Sasso Italiano & Bar Sasso is the perfect setting for any event or function, offering unforgettable Italian eats alongside a natural wine and rich negroni menu, situated at Woolloongabba's South/City/SQ dining precinct.

The Italian bar and trattoria were among the first venues to hit Woolloongabba’s vibrant lifestyle precinct, courtesy of experienced hotel veterans Vincent Lombino and Jared Thibault (the duo were instrumental in designing Za Za Ta at Ovolo The Valley and Gowings Bar & Grill at QT Sydney.

Their dimly-lit spaces are decked out with plenty of timber and glass, curved entryways, marble countertops and crazy paved floors; while the walls are adorned with paintings by Melbourne artist Libby Haines and Italo-disco throwbacks play through the house speakers.

Bar Sasso is a mini version of its big sister Sasso Italian and is perfect for small functions, private lunches or dinners. The fully stocked private bar and an outdoor patio make it a great space in Woolloongaba.

In the kitchen, former Sydney chef Gabriele Di Landri (ex-Aria, Chiswick and The Dolphin Hotel) prepares a mouth-watering menu of crudo, antipasti, mains, pizza and pasta.

Classic pastas range from Rigatoni Amatriciana to Fra Diavolo; backed up by pizzas such as Margherita, Salsiccia and Capricciosa from the rotating woodfired oven.

For drinks, there’s an Italian-focused wine list, and a Negroni menu that includes Birthday Negronis, highlighting vintage gins, vermouths and Campari sourced from every decade all the way back to the 1960s. For beer lovers, there's a house Italian lager brewed locally by Aether Brewing.
