Bar Hugo
West End
A former Thai restaurant has been transformed into a warm and welcoming watering hole, boasting vintage vibes with chic, retro-inspired wood panelling.
Patrons can sip and snack either inside the stylish digs or on the small rear deck - the perfect spot to enjoy a libation in the late afternoon with the sun shining.
The concise food menu includes a selection of snacks, from marinated olives and tomato toast (tomato on toasted sourdough with cured egg yolk and herb dressing) to a three cheese platter served with quince, wafers and wine jelly, or a charcuterie board piled with three meats, olives, pickled veggies and sourdough.
As for drinks, the extensive menu features 40+ wines and more than 20 vermouths, either available by the glass or bottle; from the Barossa Valley to McLaren Vale, Marlborough to Barcelona, Champagne and Piedmont, Italy, plus a few locals drops such as Old Dog Vermouth from Samford Valley and Witches Falls wines in Mount Tamborine.
Owned by a couple of hospitality veterans Nick Sebar (Savile Row) and Shaun Kelly (Bacchus Restaurant), the boys know how to sling a cocktail with six delicious concoctions on offer including their signature Hugo Spritz (Aubrey elderflower, Threefold lemoncello, prosecco and lemon soda) and Everything Goes (Dubonnet, Mancino sweet vermouth, Angostura and absinthe.)
