NIKY
Newstead
NIKY bar is a pint-sized, shell pink, wine cave occupying a converted garage just off Commercial Road in Doggett St, Newstead.
Take a seat on the footpath outside or along the bar in the arched interior with walls and roof of pink textured concrete and an LED-lit wall of boutique wines along one side.
The owners of NIKY (who are also behind nearby Salt) are hands-on, serving customers, recommending wines and creating a convivial neighbourhood atmosphere.
Wines, predominantly by small batch Australian producers, are available by the glass (see the daily chalkboard selection) and there's also a smattering of boutique beers and digestifs.
Out back is a tiny, open kitchen where delicious share plates are prepped on the spot, with offerings like kingfish crudo; stracciatella & crumpets; duck breast & lettuce cup; and tagliatelle miso.
Need to know - there is a limited amount of street parking out front and nearby. NIKY is strictly walk-in, with no reservations.
