IL LOCALE IN ROSALIE HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN FEBRUARY 2023.

Il Locale (Our Italian Table) brings an authentic and simply delicious taste of Italy to Rosalie via esteemed Brisbane Italian foodie family the Togninis.

Step through the antique carved wooden door to a pared back elegant room of Bentwood chairs, coloured glass hanging lights and rustic community table and it's immediately obvious that this restaurant is the real deal. Inside the entrance the dedicated pizza chef plies his trade, slicing prosciutto fresh from the machine and crafting what are arguably the best traditional wood-fired pizzas in Brisbane. On the window sill of the open kitchen is a block of parmesan which is grated individually at the table and shortly after being seated a complimentary hot loaf of casa di pana arrives at the table, fresh from the oven.

The food and service are both of impeccable standard and the wine list is a carefully chosen 50-50 mix of Italian wines and Australian varietals. From the menu start with spuntini (appetizers) such as baked marinated olives and baby beetroot or crispy polenta with cacolo nero and taleggio or salumi (cured meats) with bread, gnocco fritto and condiments. To follow choose from the divine pizzas, bianca or rosse (tomato based) or primo such as truffle ricotta ravioli with sage burnt butter.

Secondi include poached veal with potato and tuna fritters or almond crusted fish fillet, otherwise for something special choose a share plate for 2 such as suckling pig with Italian herbs or 12 hour slow roasted lamb shoulder. In addition also a small selection of contorni (salads and vegetable dishes).

Make sure to leave room for dolci (dessert) - the chocolate souffle is to die for, otherwise there's caramel pudding, choc, fig and hazelnut semifreddo, cannoli and a selection of gelati sourced from neighbour Gelateria Cremona. Enjoy with a dessert wine or top shelf coffee Lavazza Grand Reserva.

Need to know: there's a small Bambino's menu featuring three types of pasta. There is a table charge for water, which comes sparkling or flat. Il Locale also does takeaway pizza, pasta and salads.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
