Greenglass

GREENGLASS CLOSED IN 2023.
Greenglass is a secret upstairs French dining hall and wine bar occupying a high-ceilinged heritage loft space in Brisbane’s CBD.
Sandwiched between a strip club and a discount drugstore, the entrance to Greenglass is via a polished wooden staircase behind a black door. The stairs arrive at a cosy darkened foyer which leads via another dim-lit dining room past the kitchen into a stunning light-filled chic white space with soaring ceilings and Georgian sash windows.
Minimalist décor in this dining room/bar is confined to exposed brick walls, pale timber tables arranged communal style through the centre of the room, a stylish granite-topped bar and a ‘wine gallery’ along one wall.
This ‘gallery’ consists of a curated shelf of 100 unique wines, the majority of which you’ll never find anywhere else in Brisbane, arranged in colour from the sheerest white to the richest red.
Behind Greenglass are the savvy guys that brought Brisbane Spring Hill’s Happy Boy and for this venture there’s a French influence, complete with a Michelin-starred chef from Paris in the kitchen.
The result is a menu that alone is worth crossing from the CBD for. A weekly rotating menu of mains rarely exceeds $30 per plate, with a range of tapas-style share entrees also on offer and an ever-changing list of
wines by the glass and 100+ bottles on the wine wall to choose from.
In the late afternoon, Greenglass, whose back windows offer a rare, leafy, tree view of the CBD onto the coffee shop next door’s rear garden, offers a dress circle view through the lofty arched windows of bustling George Street – the perfect place to people watch and catch a breeze with a glass of wine in hand.
*The menu may have changed since our visit.
