Agnes Bakery

Fortitude Valley

Updated: Jun 16, 2025

AGNES BAKERY HAS CLOSED IN JUNE 2025.

Agnes Bakery, the popular purveyor of artisan baked goods, has found a permanent home in a heritage-listed cottage in Fortitude Valley.

Located on the corner of James and Harcourt Streets, the European-inspired patisserie is where customers are willing to queue to get their hands on the bakery's famous Basque burnt cheesecake, flaky pastries - sweet and savoury - and wood-fired sourdough.

Everything is made fresh daily in-house from scratch and then baked over fire in a massive four-tonne oven, including pastries, pizzettes and artisan loaves of bread: smoked potato, malted grain and treacle, or buttermilk fruit loaf.

Sweet offerings range from choux pastries (milk chocolate and creme fraiche, or ginger and rose water brulee), and doughnuts (cinnamon sugar, strawberry jam, roast quince and honey custard) to burnt Basque cheesecakes and kouign amann - think baked custard and almond, or freeze-dried raspberry and butter cream.

While, savoury lovers can purchase pizzettes topped with the likes of fermented pumpkin, pork, fennel and sage, or smoked potato and rosemary with gorgonzola.
